COLOMBO (News 1st) - A special batch of virus capable of combatting the Sena caterpillar menace was imported to the country from the United States yesterday (January 29).
Head of the Entomology Division of the Horticultural crop research and development institute, S.S.Weligamage said that research on the virus begins from today.
He further said that research is also conducted on a bacteria found locally named the "Bacillus thuringiensis" used for combating the Sena caterpillar.
Four insects have been identified as biological deterrents to the Sena caterpillar. Weligamage added that research is underway to introduce these insects to the crops.
