Colombo (News 1st) - The Colombo District Court issued an injunction against UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam and four others preventing them from taking disciplinary action against 06 UNP members of the Galle Municipal Council. The petition filed by 6 UNP councillors including Anwar Ashwar Mohamed, Roshan Lathif, Mohamed Roshan, Mohamed F Nissam, Mohammed Shiraj and Mohammed Milami was considered by Chief Colombo District Judge Janaki De Alwis today and the injunction was issued thereafter. The court issued an order to send out a notice on the respondents including Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to appear before the court on the 10th of October and present facts. Although the United National Party secured power in the Galle Municipal Council, a councillor representing the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna was appointed as the Mayor. The UNP councillors in their petition claim steps were taken to initiate a disciplinary inquiry against them for allegedly supporting the SLPP member to become Mayor. The Petitioners stated that as the Mayor was elected on the vote of the majority of councillors it would be illegal to hold a disciplinary inquiry based on the accusation that they had supported him.
