COLOMBO (News 1st);A special program to expedite surgeries for patients on waiting lists for kidney stone removal is scheduled to commence on the 12th of June
The initiative will utilize the new operating theater complex at the Mirigama Base Hospital.
Currently, nearly 5,000 patients are on the waiting lists for kidney stone removal surgeries.
Under this program, patients registered for these surgeries at various hospitals across the island will be brought to Mirigama to undergo their procedures.
Urologists from the respective hospitals will accompany the patients and perform the surgeries.
Dr. Chaminda Premaratne, the Medical Superintendent of the Mirigama Base Hospital, said that free transport facilities will also be provided to the patients for this purpose.
He further noted that through this initiative, the Ministry of Health plans to swiftly clear the backlog for kidney stone removal surgeries.
