Colombo (News1st): The 59th Commemoration of the late S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike is marked today (September 26). A commemoration event took place at 08:30 this morning at the Bandaranaike Memorial in Horagolla.

Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Sunethra Bandaranaike, members of the Bandaranaike Family, relatives and politicians were present for the commemoration.

Following religious observances, floral tributes were made at the Bandaranaike Memorial.

The Late Bandaranaike contested for the Colombo Municipal Council under the UNP ticket in 1926, he left the UNP in 1951 to form the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.

S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike was the fourth Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, he served as Prime Minister from April 1956 til he was assassinated in September 1959.
