Reuters - Former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull discussed his time in politics at an informal event in New York City on Thursday (September 20).
Turnbull was in New York on holiday after he resigned from Australia's parliament after being ousted from office in a bitter party-room contest. In his wide-ranging dialogue, he spoke about how his government brought about the legalization of same-sex marriage and the process involved.
Turnbull's departure from politics leaves new Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison presiding over a minority government, at least temporarily, until a by-election in Turnbull's Wentworth electorate in Sydney. A safe seat for the government until Turnbull quit politics, it is now expected to be a tight race.
The by-election is scheduled to occur on October 20.
