  1. The Parliament session which was postponed yesterday (September 06), is scheduled to be held today at 10:00 AM. The session was adjourned yesterday due to lack of quorum as only 16 MP’s were present in Parliament. 
  2. The United National Party (UNP) celebrated its 72nd anniversary yesterday. In his address to the convention, the leader of the UNP, Ranil Wickremesinghe hinted at remaining as leader of the UNP till 2030.
  3. A 47-year-old individual was arrested in Rikillagaskada, Hanguranketha for the possession of a foreign manufactured firearm.
  4. Former Minister S. B. Dissanayake states that the former CBSL Governor Arjuna Mahendran is receiving diplomatic protection in Singapore and a service extension was given to the Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Singapore so that Arjuna Mahendran can be protected.
  5. Over 15 million tablets of a narcotic substance have been seized from a freight container at the Colombo Port. The pill has been identified as Tramadol, which is a painkiller.
  6. The Office on Missing Persons handed it’s interim report to the President and Prime Minister. It recommends several interim relief proposals which included financial aid and education for the families of the disappeared.
  7. Measures have been taken by the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau to introduce new equipment using GPS to investigate cases of illegal mining and transportation of minerals. The new GPS equipment would enable the bureau to track the routes used to ferry the illegal minerals.
  8. The CID arrested Niraj Roshan, alias Ali Roshan, yesterday. The arrest was made in connection with an investigation regarding the ownership of an elephant.

  9. The Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy says that the daily electricity consumption has increased by about 2-megawatt hours (Mwh).
  10. Gammadda Door to Door Initiative is on the move for the 11th day today (September 07). The teams will be visiting Kandy, Kegalle, and Vavuniya districts to identify the issues of the people.


1. India’s Supreme Court ruled that gay sex is no longer a criminal offence in the country. Human rights groups have said police have used the previous Act this far to harass and abuse members of the LGBT community.
