COLOMBO (News 1st): Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa is scheduled to appear before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on Friday (4), according to his attorney, Muditha R. Lokumudali.

The attorney stated that the Bribery Commission has formally notified his client in writing to appear before the Commission at 9.00 a.m. on the specified date.

He further said that Namal Rajapaksa has agreed to comply with the directive and appear before the Commission as requested.

Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa was first informed last Monday that he should appear before the Bribery Commission on Friday (4).

Responding to the notice, Rajapaksa had reportedly informed the Commission that he would be able to appear before it tomorrow.

However, on the following day, through a letter sent by his attorney Muditha R. Lokumudali, he informed the Commission that he would be able to appear on the 25th of this month or thereafter.

According to attorney Lokumudali, the Bribery Commission rejected that request and subsequently informed Rajapaksa, through a written communication sent via WhatsApp, that he must appear before the Commission on the originally scheduled date.

The attorney stated that Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa has been summoned in connection with an investigation into alleged bribery linked to the acquisition of a wide-body aircraft fleet for SriLankan Airlines.
