Five Arrested Over 471 Kg ‘Ice’ Drug Haul Found in Colombo Port Container

COLOMBO (News1st);Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the discovery of a large stock of narcotics inside a container at the Port of Colombo. Police stated that three of the suspects are Pakistani nationals, while the other two are Sri Lankans. 

All suspects were arrested in Colombo and are aged 44, 33, 36, 38, and 51 years. They are scheduled to be produced before court today.

The container was found to hold 471 kilograms and 200 grams of "Ice" (methamphetamine), with an estimated street value exceeding Rs. 8,000 Million. Police revealed that the container had been brought into the country last June from Pakistan under the guise of re-exporting towels, and investigations have uncovered that it was planned to be transshipped from Sri Lanka to Cameroon. 

The ongoing investigation is being conducted as a joint operation by the Colombo Central Crime Investigation Bureau, Sri Lanka Customs, and the Police Narcotics Bureau.
