Over 250 Japanese Tourists, Investors Choose Sri Lanka for Special Visit

COLOMBO (News 1st): More than 250 Japanese tourists and investors arrived in the country on Sunday (31) aboard a SriLankan Airlines flight from Japan.

The group arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake on SriLankan Airlines flight UL 455, which operated from Narita International Airport in Japan.

They were officially welcomed at the airport by Sri Lankan officials.

The arrival is being viewed as another positive indicator of growing international interest in Sri Lanka as the country continues to strengthen its position as a leading destination for tourism and business engagement in the region.

During their stay in Sri Lanka, the visitors are scheduled to tour several of the island's most renowned attractions, including the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress, one of the country's most visited UNESCO World Heritage sites.

The visit is expected to offer the Japanese delegation an opportunity to experience Sri Lanka's cultural heritage, natural beauty and tourism offerings, while also exploring potential opportunities for future economic and investment collaboration.

According to the itinerary, the Japanese visitors are expected to remain in Sri Lanka for several days before departing the country on September 4. The visit comes through the Little Japan initiative, in what organisers are calling a landmark moment for tourism and bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

The arrival marks the culmination of months of planning under the campaign banner “Japan Returns to Sri Lanka,” and is being positioned as a defining moment in the renewal of people-to-people, cultural and commercial ties between Japan and Sri Lanka, said a statement.

The delegation was brought together through Little Japan, a platform founded via the Colombo International Airport Hotel, to connect Japanese visitors, businesses and institutions with Sri Lankan destinations, enterprises and communities.
