Over 84,000 People Affected By Dry Weather, says DMC

COLOMBO (News 1st): The number of people affected by the dry weather has risen to 84,545.

The Disaster Management Centre stated that people in seven districts have been impacted by the dry weather.

Monaragala district has recorded the highest number of people affected, with the figure standing at 11,074.

The Disaster Management Centre stated that 9,547 people in the Batticaloa district and 2,823 people in the Ampara district have been affected by the dry weather.

In addition, dry weather has led to water shortages in several Divisional Secretariat divisions across the Badulla, Polonnaruwa, Hambantota, and Ratnapura districts.

The Disaster Management Centre stated that measures have been taken to distribute drinking water to 75,734 people affected by the situation.

Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology stated that the heat index; the temperature felt by the human body; is at a level requiring attention today, especially in the Eastern Province, as well as in the Polonnaruwa, Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, and Monaragala districts.

The Department urged the public to remain vigilant and to follow the recommended health guidelines to protect themselves from the effects of excessive heat.
