Water Supply Restored After Kelani River Scare; Delays Continue in Battaramulla, Kotte & Nugegoda

COLOMBO (News 1st); The water quality issue that prompted the temporary suspension of water supply from the Ambatale and Kelani South Water Treatment Plants has now been resolved with the assistance of the Tri-Forces, authorities announced.

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) had earlier suspended water distribution to several areas in Colombo and Gampaha after a sudden deterioration of water quality was detected near the Kelani River intake point.

Authorities have now confirmed that the situation has been brought under control, allowing water treatment operations to resume.

According to the NWSDB, water supply is currently being restored to affected areas and consumers are expected to receive water within the next few hours. However, some areas are likely to experience delays.

The Board said that residents in Battaramulla, Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, Pamankada and Nugegoda may have to wait longer than other areas before water supply returns to normal.

The earlier disruption was caused by a sudden water quality issue near the Kelani River intake, leading authorities to temporarily halt water treatment and distribution as a safety precaution.
