COLOMBO (News1st); Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga managed to secure first place in the men's javelin throw event at the 2026 Lausanne Diamond League athletics meeting held in the early hours of today.
His performance in the event was 88.14 meters.
Former world champion and Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, who recorded a distance of 88.05 meters, took second place, while former world champion Anderson Peters claimed third place.
This was the third Diamond League meet that Rumesh participated in.
Previously at the Rome Diamond League athletics meeting, he won first place in the javelin throw by displaying a performance of 92.62 meters.
Following that, at the Doha Diamond League athletics meeting, Rumesh also managed to win first place in the men's javelin throw event.
Rumesh won the gold medal in the men's javelin throw event at this year's Commonwealth Games by displaying a performance of 89.75 meters.
According to the international rankings for the men's javelin throw event, Rumesh Tharanga is currently in 2nd place.
