COLOMBO(News 1st): The number of dengue cases reported in the country so far this year has risen to 92,854.
The total number of reported dengue deaths stands at 69.
Dr. Kapila Kannangara, Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, stated that 96 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions remain high-risk zones.
Dr. Kapila Kannangara added that although the daily count of dengue patients has decreased in recent weeks, dengue eradication programs are still actively underway across 12 districts and 63 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) areas.
He iterated that it is vital that the public continues to support these efforts.
Dr. Kapila Kannangara highlighted that with the upcoming Northeast Monsoon and unpredictable weather patterns, even localized rain showers may pose a major dengue threat.
Therefore, he emphasized that water accumulating in small containers may create ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes, and hence reminded the public that maintaining clean, water-free surroundings remains crucial.
