COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka is set to introduce a fully digital system for traffic fine payments from September, with all necessary arrangements now in place to ensure that fines relating to motor vehicle offences can be settled exclusively through online platforms.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by the President's Media Division following a review meeting on the progress of projects being implemented by the Ministry of Digital Economy for 2026. The discussion was chaired by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat.

The meeting also focused on the planned issuance of Sri Lanka's Digital National Identity Card later this year.

According to the statement, the President instructed officials to give special attention to establishing information technology services across the public sector as a nationwide service, enabling stronger support for the Government's digital transformation programme and improving technological capabilities within State institutions.
