COLOMBO (News 1st) - Acting Government Analyst Kamani Perera says that 70 percent of the reports received by the Government Analyst’s Department are related to drugs.
Speaking to News 1st Kamani Perera said that priority has been given to expediting the analysis reports of suspects who are in remand custody.
According to the Acting Government Analyst, priority is given for prisoners who are currently held in remand custody inorder to speed up the process to these suspects for legal proceedings.
When asked about the increase in officials employed at the Analysts Department she said that 22 officials were newly recruited as Assistant Government Analysts under the permanent staff for the Drugs Division by the month of February 2026.
Accordingly, 83 officials are currently in service for the Government Analysts Department.
