Water Capacity at Reservoirs Drops To 37%

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Department of Irrigation says the water capacity of reservoirs has declined most significantly in the Ampara, Batticaloa and Trincomalee districts.

The water capacity of reservoirs in the Ampara district is currently held at 22.8%.

The capacity has dropped to 25.7% in the Batticaloa district and 28.2% in the Trincomalee district.

However, the Department of Irrigation said the main reservoirs used to supply drinking water remain without any issue.

Meanwhile, the Mahaweli Water Management Secretariat stated that the water capacity of reservoirs controlled by the Secretariat remains at 57%.

The Secretariat also stated the water level in Mahaweli Reservoirs used for power generation stands at 65%.
