Education Committee Focuses On Teacher Shortages And Sector Reforms

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministerial Advisory Committee on Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education has focused its attention on elevating the professionalism of the teaching service, resolving teacher shortages, and providing solutions to existing structural issues in the education sector.

This took place when the committee met in Parliament under the chairmanship of Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.

During the meeting, discussions focused on enhancing the quality of school education, filling teacher vacancies, streamlining the teacher transfer process, and improving necessary facilities for schools in difficult areas.

It was noted that special attention was given to expediting the new recruitment process to minimize teacher shortages, particularly in science and mathematics subjects and identifying areas with teacher requirements to take necessary action.

Additionally, the need to give special attention to schools facing teacher shortages, including those in the Northern and Eastern provinces, was highlighted.
