COLOMBO (News 1st): A Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus collided with a lorry transporting roof tiles in the Medawachchiya area, leaving 13 people injured.
Police said the injured were admitted to the Medawachchiya and Vavuniya hospitals for treatment.
According to preliminary investigations, the accident occurred after the lorry had been parked by the roadside due to a mechanical failure. The bus driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the rear of the stationary lorry.
Meanwhile, two people were killed in a separate road accident in the Damaniya area along the Bakamuna-Dambulla road when a luxury passenger bus collided with a motorcycle.
Police said the crash occurred during the early hours of today and claimed the lives of a 63-year-old mother and her 43-year-old son.
The driver of the luxury bus has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Police are conducting further investigations into both accidents.
