GCE Advanced Level Examination Begins Today (10)

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The 2026 GCE Advanced Level Examination begins today (10).

Commissioner General of Examinations Indika Kumari Liyanage said the examination will be conducted until the 5th of September.

A total of 372,310 candidates are sitting for this year’s examination.

This includes 264,496 school candidates and 107,814 private candidates.

The examination will be held at 2,532 centers islandwide.

The Commissioner General of Examinations Indika Kumari Liyanage has advised candidates to arrive at their examination centers one hour before the scheduled time.

Candidates must carry one of the following identification documents to the examination centre every day - National Identity Card
Valid Driving Licence
Valid Passport

According to The Commissioner General of Examinations, Indika Kumari Liyanagen If a candidate’s identification document is lost or damaged, school candidates can use two passport-size photographs certified by their school principal as a temporary identification document. 

Private candidates can have two photographs certified by their Grama Niladhari and use them as a temporary identification document. 

If an admission card is lost or damaged, candidates can download a new copy from the official website of the Department of Examinations. 

The new admission card must also be properly certified before being taken to the examination centre.

Candidates should only take the necessary stationary items they need for the examination, such as pens, pencils, an eraser and a ruler. 

They must also carry their admission card and identification document.

A special emergency plan has been prepared to deal with any disasters or emergencies that may occur during the examination period.

The plan has been prepared with the participation of several agencies, including the Department of Meteorology and the Disaster Management Centre.
