Government Backs IGP as Probe Begins Into Sagara's IGP Remark

COLOMBO (News 1st); Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala says the government views as extremely serious the statement made by Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) General Secretary Attorney-at-Law Sagara Kariyawasam regarding the alleged possibility of Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya being killed in public.

Addressing Parliament today, the Minister stated that the Central Crimes Investigation Bureau has already launched an investigation into the remarks.

He further emphasized that the government would ensure the protection of the Inspector General of Police as well as all officers serving under his command while they continue their efforts to combat crime and maintain law and order across the country.
