COLOMBO (News 1st); More than 6,000 people from 1,512 families have been affected by weather-related disasters triggered by heavy rainfall across several parts of Sri Lanka, according to the Ministry of Defence.
The Ministry said the affected population is spread across 47 Divisional Secretariat divisions in seven districts.
Authorities further stated that 3,316 affected individuals have been relocated to 16 safe locations established to provide temporary shelter and assistance.
The adverse weather has also claimed six lives, while one person remains missing.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Navy said 11 rescue teams equipped with boats have been deployed to assist affected communities and carry out emergency response operations in disaster-hit areas.
