Gold-Plated T-56 | Duminda Dissanayake Indicted

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Attorney General has filed indictments against former Minister Duminda Dissanayake before the Colombo High Court.

The indictments have been filed in connection with the discovery of a gold-plated T-56 assault rifle at the Havelock City luxury apartment complex.

Former Minister Duminda Dissanayake was arrested on May 23 last year in connection with investigations into the incident and was subsequently remanded after being produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court.

However, on July 29 last year, then Mount Lavinia Magistrate Chathurika de Silva ordered the former Minister's release on bail, citing the absence of direct and circumstantial evidence linking him to the case.

Nevertheless, notices were issued on June 19 this year directing former Minister Duminda Dissanayake to appear before court again on July 7.

The order was issued by Mount Lavinia Magistrate Kanchana N. Silva.

The court acted on a request made by the Criminal Investigation Department after the Attorney General informed authorities that sufficient evidence existed to identify Duminda Dissanayake as a suspect in the case and sought the issuance of notices requiring his appearance before court.

In addition, the Attorney General has also filed indictments against Aigul Sheragzina, another suspect connected to the incident.
