125mm Downpour Hits Nuwara Eliya and Hatton

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka recorded its highest rainfall over the past 24 hours in the Nuwara Eliya and Hatton-Dickoya areas, as persistent adverse weather conditions continued to impact several parts of the country.

According to the Department of Meteorology, the highest rainfall recorded during the period was 125 millimetres in the Nuwara Eliya and Hatton-Dickoya regions. The department further stated that Maliboda in Kegalle received 111 millimetres of rainfall during the same period.

Meanwhile, Director of Hydrology and Disaster Management at the Irrigation Department, L.S. Suriyabandara, said that water levels in the Mahaweli, Kelani, and Kalu rivers remain at elevated levels following the continuous rainfall experienced in many areas.
