COLOMBO (News 1st) - Police say the unrest among inmates at Mahara Prison has now been brought under control.

Police Media Spokesperson, ASP F. U. Wootler, stated that the police curfew imposed in three Grama Niladhari divisions remains in effect.

Accordingly, curfew has been imposed in the Grama Niladhari Divisions of 246 Kendaliyatta Paluwa West, 246C Kendaliyatta Paluwa North and 181G Dambuwa.

Police have urged the public residing in these areas to stay indoors and seek assistance from the Sri Lanka Police for any matters related to attaining work during the curfew period.

One inmate died, and six others were injured during the clash at the Mahara Prison.

The police suspect that a group of inmates addicted to drugs caused the unrest.
