Sri Lanka Women Make Statement with Six-Wicket Win Over Pakistan

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Women opened their T20I series against Pakistan Women in spectacular fashion, sealing a six-wicket victory in Dambulla after a remarkable century from Imesha Dulani guided the hosts to a memorable run chase.

After winning the toss and opting to field first, Sri Lanka were set a challenging target of 177 after Pakistan Women posted 176 for 7 from their 20 overs. Pakistan's innings was built around an aggressive 63 off 41 balls from Shawaal Zulfiqar and a rapid 42 off just 24 deliveries from captain Muneeba Ali. Contributions from Eman Naseer, Ayesha Zafar and Saira Jabeen further boosted the total as the visitors appeared to have taken control of the contest.

Sri Lanka's bowlers, however, prevented Pakistan from running away with the game. Kavisha Dilhari was the standout performer with two wickets, while Sugandika Kumari also made a valuable contribution with the ball. The hosts entered the chase needing 177 runs for victory.

The response was fearless.

Captain Chamari Athapaththu immediately put Pakistan under pressure with a blistering 39 off 22 balls, striking five fours and two sixes to provide the perfect platform. While Athapaththu's dismissal offered Pakistan a glimmer of hope, Imesha Dulani ensured there would be no collapse.

Dulani produced the innings of her career, remaining unbeaten on 101 from 64 deliveries. Her magnificent century anchored Sri Lanka's pursuit and kept the scoring rate exactly where it needed to be as Pakistan searched in vain for a breakthrough.

Supported by the middle order, Dulani carried Sri Lanka across the finish line as the home side reached 177 for 4 in 19 overs, completing the chase with six wickets in hand and one over to spare.

The victory gives Sri Lanka Women a 1-0 lead in the series.
