Extraordinary Gazette Issued To Ban Sanitary Napkins Without SLS Certification

COLOMBO (News 1st): An extraordinary gazette notification has been issued prohibiting the sale of sanitary napkins that do not carry the SLS 1732 and SLS 1748 standard certifications from the Sri Lanka Standards Institution, effective from October 8.

The order was issued under the signature of the Acting Chairman of the Consumer Affairs Authority.

These regulations apply to both locally manufactured and imported single-use and ultra-thin sanitary napkins.

Accordingly, starting October 8, the manufacturing, packaging, distribution, transportation, storage, sale, and display for sale of sanitary napkins that do not possess the required SLS standard certifications will be completely prohibited.
