COLOMBO (News 1st); An investigation has been launched into an alleged vehicle trafficking operation being conducted under the guise of a vehicle sales business in the Balummahara area.

The investigation is being carried out by the Western Province North Crimes Division following the emergence of information pointing to a larger criminal network involved in vehicle-related fraud and illegal activities.

Police said the operation came to light after officers arrested a suspect allegedly involved in the abduction of a luxury van and seized a jeep believed to have been used during the incident.

According to investigations, the luxury van had been purchased for Rs. 4 million and was being driven to Kandy by the buyer when it was allegedly intercepted and abducted in the Nittambuwa area.

Police investigations have revealed that the abduction had allegedly been carried out with the knowledge and approval of the owner of the vehicle sales outlet from which the van had been purchased.

Authorities stated that investigations are currently underway to arrest six individuals, including the owner of the vehicle sales business, over their alleged involvement in the incident.

Police further disclosed that five additional individuals who claim to have fallen victim to the same racket have already lodged complaints with the Western Province North Crimes Division.
