Kumana Entrance of Yala National Park Opened for Pada Yatra Pilgrims

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Department of Wildlife and Forest Conservation says that the Kumana entrance to the Yala National Park will be opened starting today for devotees arriving on the 'Pada Yatra' (foot pilgrimage) in line with the Kataragama Esala Perahera. 

The Department said that this entrance will remain open until the 24th of July.

Consequently, devotees traveling from the North to Kataragama will be able to access Kataragama through this entrance.

Meanwhile, the Department of Wildlife and Forest Conservation has issued a set of special guidelines urging pilgrims to protect the environment by avoiding damage to wildlife habitats and disposing of waste responsibly.

Measures have also been taken to safeguard pilgrims from wild animals during the current dry season.

The Department added that the Tri-Forces and Police have been deployed to provide security to the pilgrims.
