COLOMBO (News 1st): The University Grants Commission (UGC) says it is taking steps to introduce a new set of guidelines to control the spread of dengue in universities.
Vice Chairman of the UGC, Professor Wasantha Liyanage, stated that the guidelines are being prepared by the University of Colombo with the assistance of the National Dengue Control Unit.
Currently, dengue control programs are being implemented in universities in accordance with the guidelines already issued by the Ministry of Health.
Professor Liyanage added that all Vice-Chancellors have been instructed to take necessary measures to close universities, if required, after considering the spread of dengue in their respective areas.
Due to the spread of dengue, the University of Moratuwa and the University of the Visual and Performing Arts have already been closed.
