Indian Detainee Linked to Kush Case Killed in Sri Lanka's Negombo Prison Bloodshed

COLOMBO (News 1st); Investigations are continuing into the death of an Indian national who was among the inmates killed during the deadly violence that erupted inside Negombo Prison, authorities said.

The Indian national had been held in remand custody in connection with allegations of importing a consignment of the narcotic substance known as "Kush" into Sri Lanka, according to officials familiar with the case.

As investigations into the prison violence continue, authorities are focusing on the circumstances surrounding the inmate's death, which occurred amid the deadly confrontation that has become one of the most serious prison incidents in recent years.

Meanwhile, the Director of the Negombo Hospital confirmed that post-mortem examinations had been completed on 23 of the deceased victims and that their bodies had been released to relatives.
