COLOMBO (News 1st); The Cabinet of Ministers, which met today, has decided to appoint a committee to conduct a formal and comprehensive investigation into the violent incident at the Negombo Prison and submit a report outlining the causes of the incident, the measures that should be taken in response, and recommendations to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Retired Supreme Court Justice Priyantha Fernando has been appointed as the Chairman of the committee, while retired Additional Solicitor General and President’s Counsel Milinda Gunathilake and President’s Counsel Mohan Weerakoon have been named as the other members.
The committee is expected to carry out a wide-ranging investigation into all aspects of the incident and submit a report containing its findings and recommendations to the government.
