Special Dengue Eradication Drive Launched In 23 High-Risk MOH Divisions, As Dengue Cases Surge Past 58,000

COLOMBO (News 1st): A Special Dengue Eradication Programme covering 23 high-risk dengue zones in the Western Province commences today (05).

The programme is being coordinated under the Clean Sri Lanka programme on behalf of the Presidential Secretariat.

Accordingly, the programme will be implemented in the MOH divisions of Maharagama, Kaduwela, Homagama, Gothatuwa, Battaramulla, and Piliyandala in the Colombo District as well as within the Colombo Municipal Council.

The Special Dengue Eradication Programme, in the Gampaha District will cover the MOH divisions of Biyagama, Kelaniya, Seeduwa, Ja-Ela, Mahara, Wattala, Negombo, and Minuwangoda.

In the Kalutara District, the programme will be carried out in the MOH divisions of Panadura, Bandaragama, Horana, Ingiriya, and Kalutara.

The National Dengue Control Unit stated that 45% of all Dengue cases reported so far have been recorded in these high-risk MOH divisions.

A total of 58,810 dengue cases have been reported islandwide so far this year.

The dengue death toll currently stands at 39.
