COLOMBO (News 1st): Four people, including a 16-year-old student, have died in road accidents in several areas.
According to the Police a 17-year-old youth died in an accident on the Anuradhapura-Rambewa road near the Saliyapura Galwala Junction, when a bus collided with a motorcycle.
On the Galewela-Kekirawa road, near the 21st-kilometer post, a 16-year-old student died when his motorcycle collided with an oncoming van. The victim was a resident of the Dewayahuwa area.
Meanwhile, on the Colombo-Badulla main road in the Pambahinna area, a person died and another was injured after a motorcycle skidded and collided with a bus. The deceased was a 37-year-old resident of the Balangoda area.
On the Dambulla-Pubbogama road in the Anakatawa area, a person died after a motorcycle attempting to overtake a lorry skidded on the road and collided with an oncoming three-wheeler. The deceased was a 20-year-old resident of the Dewayahuwa area.
Technical issues with vehicles, as well as reckless driving, have been identified as the causes of most of these accidents.
Police urge drivers to be mindful of both the condition of their vehicles and their own fitness to drive in order to minimize road accidents.
