COLOMBO (News 1st); An Extraordinary Gazette Notification has extended the term of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry appointed to investigate alleged corruption and irregularities within the Colombo Municipal Council until December 31st.
The extension was granted by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The Commission was appointed with effect from December 30th last year to investigate, examine and report on alleged corruption and irregularities within the Colombo Municipal Council.
Its term was due to expire tomorrow. The extension will provide additional time for the Commission to complete its investigations and submit its final report.
The Commission is tasked with probing allegations of corruption, fraud, criminal breach of trust and criminal misappropriation of property within the Colombo Municipal Council, covering the period from 2010 to 2025.
The Commission comprises former High Court Judge Piyasena Ranasinghe, Accountant E.R.M.S.H. Ekanayaka and former Senior Superintendent of Police D.S. Wickramasinghe.
