Northern Province Governor Removes Vavuniya Mayor and Chavakachcheri Vice Chair Via Gazette

Northern Province Governor Nagalingam Vethanayahan has issued two extraordinary gazettes declaring that the Mayor of the Vavuniya Municipal Council, Sundaralingam Kandeeban, and the Vice Chairman of the Chavakachcheri Urban Council, Gnanapragasam Kishor, are disqualified from continuing to function in those positions.

Accordingly, the Northern Province Governor issued these extraordinary gazettes in accordance with the powers vested in him under the Municipal Councils Ordinance No. 29 of 1947 and the Urban Councils Ordinance No. 61 of 1939.

The gazettes specify that the two individuals are removed from their respective positions and memberships with effect from today.
