COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Department of Irrigation has urged farmers to use irrigation water sparingly for cultivation, following forecasts indicating a possible El Niño situation.
Director of the Water Management Unit, P.S.D. Herath at the Department of Irrigation says that sufficient water is available in reservoirs for the Yala season.
However, he noted that the upcoming Maha season could be affected by El Niño conditions, and urged for careful and efficient use of irrigation water.
