COLOMBO (News 1st): The Cabinet has decided not to implement several cabinet decisions taken during the previous government's tenure regarding domesticated elephants, which were in violation of the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance.
The Minister of Environment, Dr. Dhammika Patabendi, stated that these decisions will be communicated to the Supreme Court regarding a petition currently being heard against them.
The Minister said that a policy regarding domesticated elephants will be formulated.
Dr. Dhammika Patabendi further stated that a committee with the participation of all stakeholders will be appointed for this purpose.
