Death Toll Rises To Six In Deduru Oya Drowning Incident

COLOMBO (News 1st); Recovery efforts in the wake of yesterday’s tragic drowning incident in Deduru Oya have led to the discovery of four additional bodies, bringing the confirmed death toll to six.

The incident occurred last afternoon in Embalayagama, Kobeigane when a group of 15 individuals went swimming in the river and were swept away.

The bodies of two victims had been recovered earlier while two of those rescued are receiving treatment in hospital.

Police added that one victim is receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.
