Heroin Worth Over Rs. 4000 Million Recovered from Multiday Fishing Vessel

COLOMBO (News 1st); More than 150 kilograms of heroin were recovered from a multiday fishing vessel taken into custody by the Sri Lanka Navy and brought to the Dikowita Harbour, Deputy Minister of Defence, retired Major General Aruna Jayasekara said.

He stated that the street value of the seized narcotics exceeds Rs. 4000 Million.

The vessel was intercepted by the Sri Lanka Navy yesterday during a long-range patrol operation conducted in deep sea waters south of Sri Lanka, following suspicions that it was engaged in drug trafficking.

Four fishermen who were on board the vessel were also taken into Navy custody during the operation.

The fishing boat, along with the suspected narcotics and the suspects, was brought to the Dikowita Harbour early this morning.

Subsequently, the consignment was subjected to a detailed inspection.

During the examination, authorities uncovered 150 packets of heroin onboard the vessel.

Following the discovery, the suspects were formally arrested. The investigation into the seizure is continuing.
