COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Transport has announced the deployment of a special bus service between Colombo and Kandy to facilitate public travel during the upcoming New Year season.
Deputy Minister of Transport Dr. Prasanna Gunasena said the special buses will be deployed starting tomorrow (10) to meet the increased travel demand during the festive period.
Railway operations on the Colombo–Kandy route have been disrupted due to damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah, prompting authorities to introduce alternative transport arrangements to ensure uninterrupted travel for the public.
The special bus service will operate from the Bastian Mawatha Bus Terminal in Colombo.
The Deputy Minister further stated that even after the New Year holiday season, the bus service is expected to continue operating on weekends under a revised timetable, depending on public demand and operational feasibility.
