COLOMBO (News 1st) - Professor Wijendra Jayalath Bandara, Chairman of the Sustainable Energy Authority, has urged the public to switch to low-capacity bulbs, such as LEDs, to support national energy conservation efforts.
"Surakimu Lanka" national program was officially launched yesterday to encourage citizens to use energy sparingly.
The government initiated the program in response to potential disruptions in fuel and energy supplies caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, as well as forecasts of an upcoming "El Niño" weather pattern.
The conservation program will be in effect for the next five months, focusing on the peak usage window from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
