Heat Advisory Issued for Several Provinces; Public Urged to Stay Hydrated and Take Precautions

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Department of Meteorology says that the heat index, the temperature felt on the human body will remain at a "caution" level across many parts of the island today.

In an advisory issued on this, the Department noted that the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Eastern, North-Western, Northern, and North-Central provinces, as well as the Monaragala district, are expected to experience elevated heat levels. 

The public is advised to remain vigilant regarding these conditions.

Meanwhile, Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Secretary to the Ministry of Health, has urged the public to drink water at regular intervals to prevent dehydration. Dr. Jasinghe also advised those outdoors to wear head covers and sunglasses for protection.

Furthermore, health authorities emphasized that children and the elderly should not be left alone in areas exposed to direct sunlight for prolonged periods. If anyone experiences faintness or loss of consciousness, they are advised to move immediately to a cool or shaded area. If symptoms persist or worsen, medical assistance should be sought without delay.
