COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka and Brazil have agreed to elevate their bilateral trade volume to $1 billion by the year 2030.

The agreement was reached during the second round of bilateral political consultations held recently in Colombo.

The session was co-chaired by Aruni Ranaraja, Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ambassador Susan Kleebank, Secretary for Asia and the Pacific at the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Both nations emphasized the importance of swiftly finalizing pending Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted a shared commitment to addressing security challenges, including law enforcement, human trafficking, and combating international organized crime.

The consultations also served as a preparatory stage for President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s upcoming state visit to Brazil.
