COLOMBO (News 1st); French President Emmanuel Macron has said that France will not take part in military operations to open or secure the Strait of Hormuz under the current conflict conditions, stressing that Paris is not a party to the war.

Speaking on France’s position, President Macron said the country would “never take part in operations to open or liberate the Strait of Hormuz in the current context,” citing France’s non‑involvement in the conflict.

However, Macron indicated that France is prepared to assume responsibilities related to maritime security once the situation de‑escalates.

“We are convinced that once the situation has calmed down,” Macron said, deliberately using the term broadly, “once the main bombing has ceased, we are ready, along with other nations, to assume responsibility for the escort system.”

The French President emphasised that any future escort mechanism would require careful political and technical planning, as well as coordination with all stakeholders involved in maritime transport.

He noted that such efforts would involve close engagement with shipping operators, insurers, and operational partners to establish a viable framework.

Macron also revealed that France has already begun discussions with international partners, including India, several European countries, and nations in the region, as part of preliminary exchanges on post‑conflict maritime arrangements.
