Kristalina Georgieva Touches Down in Sri Lanka as IMF Assesses Post‑Cyclone Needs

COLOMBO (News 1st); A high‑level delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, arrived in Sri Lanka this afternoon (16) for a three‑day official visit.

The delegation was received at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake by Labour Minister and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, along with several other officials.

The IMF Managing Director and her team are visiting Sri Lanka with the objective of directly observing the damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah and assessing its impact. The delegation is scheduled to visit the Gampola area tomorrow morning (17) as part of this assessment tour.

Following the field visit, the delegation will hold discussions in Colombo with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, and Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe. These discussions will focus on Sri Lanka’s recovery efforts following the disaster and the support the IMF can extend towards rebuilding and ensuring a stronger future for all Sri Lankans.
