Health Experts Warn Around 10% of Kidney Patients in Sri Lanka Unaware of Their Condition

COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lankan health authorities say that around 10% of kidney patients across the island are unaware that they are suffering from the condition.

Dr. Arjuna Marasinghe, a specialist at the National Institute for Nephrology, Dialysis & Transplantation, emphasized that individuals who fail to manage high blood pressure or diabetes are at a significantly higher risk of developing kidney disease.

Speaking on early detection, Dr. Marasinghe highlighted that many patients remain undiagnosed until the disease has advanced.

He advised that indivisuals with high cholesterol or high blood sugar is advised to get regular kidney checks, stressing that early detection is crucial to prevent serious complications.
