CCTV, Undercover Cops Deployed for India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup Game in Colombo

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police announced extensive CCTV surveillance, drone monitoring and undercover security deployments ahead of the major international cricket match between India and Pakistan scheduled for 15 February 2026 at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium.

Police Spokesperson ASP F. U. Wootler said that all gates will open to the public at 3:00 p.m., four hours before the match begins at 7:00 p.m., and urged spectators to arrive early to ease movement and reduce congestion.

He added that all entry roads and surrounding areas are equipped with CCTV, while plainclothes officers and special drone operations will be active throughout the event to ensure public safety.

ASP Wootler stressed that spectators must fully cooperate with vehicle searches and physical checks, noting that security teams will be stationed across all access points. He assured the public that officers in civilian attire would also assist spectators and monitor for any security concerns.

Parking facilities for spectators include Grandpass Matti Park, Sathosa car park, Sebastian Ela, Kovila Road, Applewatte, and both sides of Adi Siyya Paara. Vehicles carrying passes issued by Sri Lanka Cricket may enter through Keththarama Junction and Wilson Perera Mawatha via Gate 1 and Gate 2.

Several roads leading to the stadium will be temporarily restricted, including: Wilson Perera Mawatha towards Babapulle Junction, Access from Babapulle Bridge, Sebastian Ela via Malwatte Road, Adi Siyya Paara – Temple Road junction, The “stadium road” near Maligawatte, Saddharma Mawatha – Temple Road (Keththarama Road), 

ASP Wootler said spectators must avoid bringing bags, backpacks, jackets, helmets, glass bottles, electronic devices, musical instruments, knives, cutlery or any sharp items, all of which are strictly prohibited. He noted that food is permitted, and additional food outlets will operate inside the stadium. Liquor is not allowed.

He also issued a firm reminder that no spectator will be allowed to enter the playing area under any circumstances, calling for the full cooperation of both local and foreign attendees.

The Police Spokesperson emphasized that this is one of the biggest international sporting events to be held in Sri Lanka, and urged the public to behave responsibly and support security efforts to ensure a peaceful and successful match.
