Water Board Additional GM Nabbed For Corruption

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Additional General Manager of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Darshana Medawatta, has been arrested.

The arrest was made by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

According to the Commission, the suspect was taken into custody on charges of causing financial loss to the government by obtaining a luxury jeep on a rental basis and paying more than Rs. 12.7 million from the contract funds of the Kandy North Pathadumbara Integrated Water Supply Project, an act deemed a corruption offence.

The Commission further stated that a businessman from the Gampaha area, identified as Nalin Liyanage, has also been arrested in connection with the incident.
