COLOMBO (News 1st); The Cinnamon Gardens Police today informed the Colombo Magistrate’s Court that they will withdraw the case filed against journalist Gayan Kalpa Gunaratne.
This was announced when the case was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama.
Gayan Kalpa had been charged with obstructing a police officer and acting in a manner that disrupted public peace.
Representing the innamon Gardens Police, the officer in court informed the Magistrate that both parties had reached an amicable settlement.
Accordingly, the police stated they no longer wished to proceed with the case and requested that the matter be withdrawn.
After considering the submissions, the Magistrate ordered the termination of case proceedings.
The case relates to an incident at a stall during the 2024 Colombo International Book Fair, where journalist Gayan Kalpa Gunaratne was arrested by innamon Gardens Police and later released on bail
