COLOMBO (News1st): Four suspects were arrested early this morning at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake for the possession of narcotics valued at approximately Rs. 216,140,000.
The Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) officials at the airport arrested one suspect arriving from Muscat, Oman.
Accordingly, 8 kg 220 g narcotics worth of Rs. 82.2 millions which were concealed in his luggage were taken into custody.
The suspect is a 37-year-old resident of Delgoda who works as a private security officer at a nightclub.
In a seperate operation, Three more suspects were apprehended with a stock of Kush and Hashish valued at Rs. 133,940,000.
These suspects also arrived from Muscat, Oman, early this morning and were intercepted while attempting to smuggle the narcotics through BIA.
During a joint operation conducted by Airport Customs and the Customs Narcotics Control Division, officials discovered 10 kg 394 g of Kush and 1 kg 912 g of Hashish hidden inside the suspects' luggage.
All suspects are due to be produced before the Negombo Magistrate's court.
